PokéSurvivor Starters: All 29 and Which to Pick

All 29 PokéSurvivor starters with their first move, by region, plus how each opening move plays and how to choose your first partner.

The 29 starting partners

PokéSurvivor starts you with one of 29 starting partners: five from Kanto and three from each of the other eight regions, Johto through Paldea. A short personality quiz suggests one, but you can refuse the suggestion and pick any starter yourself. Every Pokémon you unlock later through the gacha can be used as a partner too, so your first pick is a starting point, not a commitment.

The table shows each partner's opening move. Your partner learns more moves as you level up. There are four move slots, and only the active slot fires.

How the six opening moves play

  • Vine Whip (Grass) is a melee swing in an arc around you. It is strong while enemies are close, but you have to stay in range.
  • Razor Leaf (Grass) is a boomerang. It flies out toward an enemy and comes back, hitting on both legs.
  • Ember (Fire) and Water Gun (Water) fire projectiles at the nearest enemy. They are the simplest to use because you keep your distance while the game aims for you.
  • Bubble (Water) is a radial burst that hits in every direction around you. It is great against crowds and needs no aiming at all.
  • Confusion (Psychic) is a projectile too, but psychic moves were weakened in the October 11 balance patch, so treat the two Confusion starters as the harder pick.

Which starter should you pick?

For a first run, choose a partner whose opening move works without precise positioning:

  1. Fire and Water starters (Ember, Water Gun) give you a ranged attack from the first second. It is the safest way to learn how the horde moves.
  2. Bubble starters (Piplup, Popplio) trade range for a burst around you, which suits moments when you are surrounded.
  3. Grass starters with Vine Whip reward confident movement, because you have to stay close.

Each region's three starters follow the same Grass, Fire, Water pattern, so the choice mostly comes down to which playstyle you like and which Pokémon you want to see. Types and stats come from the partner itself.

Starters that behave like twins

Treecko and Froakie score exactly the same in the quiz, and so do Piplup and Quaxly. If the quiz lands on one of them it is a coin flip. The starter quiz answers page has the exact combinations.
